English Hackamores are milder in their action compared to the German Hackamores. The better quality Hackamores come with the solid Nickel cheeks for durability whereas the cheaper ones have the lighter weight, chrome plated cheeks.
Backstraps are either plain leather or have a chain insert.
The former are a milder option.
Hackamores come into their own with horses with bitting issues or with sore mouths.
Care must be taken when fittting a Hackamore in that it is not sitting too low on the nose and therefore restricting the horse's breathing. Make sure that the nose pressure is on the bone and not the cartilage.
